Zoey delivered, and we have
one little boy available. We've named him Sgt. Pepper.
Our handsome Pepper! He
looks like a little bear, and oh so snuggly!

Pepper when he was a couple of days
old; and Pepper on August 26th |
We've had a very hard time with Zoey's
delivery and litter. We are sad to say that only one puppy out of 4
survived.
On August 2nd, Zoey had discharge and was
in what seemed like active labor. It was around mid-night. I finally
went to rest about 3:00 a.m. I was awakened about 9:00 a.m. and Zoey had
not yet delivered. We called the vet and went in for an emergency
appointment. Zoey had to be induced and we waited with her on the floor
in the vet's office with blankets and as much comfort as we could give
her. When she started to deliver we called the vet in, and were very sad
to find that she had a still-born baby that had been gone for quite some
time. This puppy was blocking and making it hard for Zoey to have her
other puppies.
We were sent home to have her deliver the
rest of the litter. An hour or so later a little boy was born. Another
hour passed and another still-born baby was delivered. It was over 3
hours and she had not had the last puppy so were waiting for the 4th
hour (which is not common, but can happen) before we called the vet
again just before 5:00 p.m. Zoey delivered and we had a baby girl.
The first boy was named Sgt. Pepper and
he is all black. The little girl was named Miss Molly. Our little girl
only lived about 20 hours and she faded away. We believe she had a cleft
pallet and also had a developmental problem of some kind. She was a tiny
girl. The following morning Zoey looked engorged and I wasn't sure she
didn't have mastitis so off to the emergency vet we went. She just had a
lot of milk, but it appeared that she had not shed all of the last
placenta, so she was induced again and sent home with antibiotics. By
the next morning she was giving us kisses and was happy to see us...not
depressed and mistrusting as she had been. Mommy is now doing fine.
